Wicklow kept their early push for promotion from Division 3B of the NHL well on course yesterday when they handed Sligo an 11-point defeat at Arklow.
Centre-forward Jonathan O'Neill was the Yeats County's chief tormentor on the day, striking 1-11 with his goal coming in the 18th minute to help the hosts edge the lead by 1-5 to 0-7 at the break.
As the second-half unravelled, Wicklow began to pull away from their opponents with O'Neill finding his range and he was backed up by Dean Hyland, who finished with 0-4 to his name, as the Garden men now sit top of Division 3B after two games with a game in hand to their rivals.
