Drumkeerin Notes
Drumkeerin GAA Awards Night
What a night. By all accounts last Saturday's GAA awards night in the
Ramada Hotel was an unbelievable success.
Not only were the many wonderful young players of our club honoured
but to top it all off we were treated with the presence of Tyrone's
All-Star forward Stephen O'Neill.
Stephen spoke at great length to those in attendance with a message
that anything is possible with the right mindset. He referred to the
success of all the underage teams and encouraged those young players
to stick together. If they do that then anything is possible.
It was great to have him there and a special word must go to Micheal
Forde who arranged for the great man to come. Adding to that credit
must go to all the ticket sellers who definitely got the message out
there.
In addition to all the sides who collected trophies on the nights,
players of the year were also announced. They were as follows: (Minor)
Tomas Lavin; (Under 21)Aidan Dolan; (Junior) Daragh Flynn; (Senior)
Damien McPadden. Well done to all the lads.
Also present on the night were Dan Gallogy and Attracta O'Reilly from
Coiste na nOg and Ray O'Connor, his wife Anne and Bernie Clancy from
the Ladies Board. Thank you for attending.
Thanks to Gabriel Flynn who provided DJ on the night. Gabriel has
promised a night soon for part two of his entertaining show. Also
thank you to Kevin Logue and Marie Flynn for the band. They were
excellent and certainly got everyone up on their feet.
A special word to the Ramada Hotel and their staff for all the help
on the night. It was a wonderful location for the event and the food
was excellent.
In addition to all this there were a number of sponsors of spot
prizes on the night. Thanks to everyone that contributed. I don't have
a full list but I will endeavour to get one in time for next week.
Finally thank you most of all to all of the people who attended on
the night. 300 people packed in to celebrate the occasion
demonstrating that the club is thriving on and off the field.
Hopefully we will be back next year with even more success under our
belts.
Sponsorship
Thanks to Dessie McDermott Construction and Maureen Fee, Rowantree,
Drumkeerin for their sponsorship of the Ladies Senior team for 2010.
Minors
Despite wrong reports in these notes last week the Minors are in fact
in action against Melvin Gaels this Saturday. It is an early start for
the boys with throw in taking place at 11.30am in Kinlough. Good luck
to the team and management.
Seniors
Our Seniors are also in action this Saturday. They face last season's
Senior Championship Semi Finalists Bornacoola. Throw-in @ 4:45. Good
luck to the team and management.
Lotto
The next draw takes this Saturday. New sellers for March are now in
situ. Can Conor Woods and John Mc Partland please co-ordinate with
Seamus Duignan. Thanks again to everyone for their continued support.
Yearly lotto
Yearly lotto ticket sellers are now visiting the area to sign up
people for the 2010 subscription of Drumkeerin GAA Yearly Lotto. The
generosity people showed last year was greatly appreciated by the club
and we are hoping that will continue this year. Tickets are Ä50 and in
addition to being entered into every draw of the year, holders will
also be entered into a confined monthly draw in which they could win
Ä100. If that was not enough they will receive a 2010 Drumkeerin GAA
supporter car sticker.
Membership
There are still a few outstanding memberships for 2010. Deadline for
this year is fast approaching.
If you still haven't paid membership or would like to become a member
for this year you can contact Stephen Feeney on (086) 0663228.
Under 21s
Good luck to Jason Byrne and the rest of the Leitrim Under 21 team who
are preparing to take on Mayo in the Connacht Championship this
Wednesday (March 10th) under lights in Cloone. Jason has been in
brilliant form of late and should start against the Western kingpins.
Throw in at 7.30pm please support.
Leitrim VEC
Well done to Patrick McHugh and Patrick McPartland who were both
involved in the Leitrim VEC who won the All-Ireland Vocational School
'B' Title against Limerick on Saturday. The lads were two of four
players representing Lough Allen College.
Leitrim v Clare
Well done to Colm Clarke who came off the bench in Leitrim latest
Division 4 game. Reports suggest that the team played well and were
unlucky to lose.
Welcome
The club would like to welcome Caitlin McTiernan to the Drumkeerin
Community. Caitlin was born a couple of weeks ago to proud parents
Richard and Olivia.
Get well soon
The club would like to wish a speedy recovery to Maurice O'Donnell
following an accident at the weekend. Also best wishes to former
manager Colin Regan who was also badly injured recently. Hopefully we
will see both men up and running soon enough.
Sympathy
The club would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the family of
Gerald McKenna, Sheena who passed away on Monday. Gerald was a
wonderfully kind individual who was well respected throughout the
community. His death is an untimely one.
To his wife Chris, son Shaun and daughters Emma and Aoife our
thoughts are with you at this time. Ar dheis DÈ go raibh a hanam.
Leitrim Supporters Club Draw
Teresa Davitt has asked me to announce that there are some tickets left for the Leitrim Supporters Club Draw which takes place this weekend. Tickets are Ä40. Anybody who is interested can contact the Teresa or purchase the tickets on-line.
