"Boys against men", Kernan admits
Joe Kernan admitted that Galway have a lot of growing up to do after yesterday's 10-point defeat to Kerry in Salthill.
"Boys against men," was how the Galway manager summed up his team's second half performance against a rampant Kerry team, who had trailed by 0-6 to 1-5 at half-time.
Of even greater concern to Kernan was the injury sustained by star forward Michael Meehan in scoring Galway's first half goal. The initial prognosis was that the Caltra clubman had damaged both lateral and cruciate ligaments, but it will take an MRI scan today to determine the full extent of it.
"We won't know that until he gets an MRI, but Michael's injury is nearly worse than the result because it's another class player out for a while."
By contrast, Jack O'Connor had much to be pleased about after Kerry secured their second win in a week.
"Overall, we are happy. Whether we can replace the great players that are gone I don't know, but these players want to play, they want the shirt and they are mad for road."
